Microchipping your Puppy
Microchips are a modern way to protect pets from becoming lost and never recovered. A microchip is about the size of a grain of rice. It only takes a few seconds to inject, safely and permanently, under your pet's skin without the need for anesthetic.

Microchips can be injected into dogs, cats, birds, horses, exotic animals, and fish. Once implanted, the microchip remains inactive until read with a scanner. The scanner sends a low frequency radio signal to the chip which provides the power needed for the microchip to send its unique code back to the scanner to positively identify the animal. The ID number of the microchip is stored permanently inside the animal, under the skin, where it cannot be lost or altered. A microchip will last for the lifetime of your pet.

All of our puppies are microchipped with HomeAgain before going to their new homes. We will provide you with the proper paperwork for registering your pet's microchip. The cost for registering your pet's microchip is $17.50. This is a one time enrollment fee with HomeAgain that you will pay when you send in the application. Once your pet is registered, it's imperative that you keep your contact information up to date with HomeAgain in case your pet is lost.  If you would prefer for us to not microchip your puppy, please let me know! Some prefer to have this done by their own vet.

Collar tags can identify pets and reunite them with their owners but they can fall off or be removed. Collar tags also provide personal information about your pet which can discourage someone from retuning your pet to you. Tattoos are a good identification method, but can distort as the animals grows. Tattoos may also fade with time. Microchipping provides a permanent, non-alterable way of identifying pets, without disturbing the animal's coat or appearance in any way. Microchips are accepted by A.K.C., Canadian Kennel Club, UKC, and the USDA.

All of our adult Havanese are microchipped with HomeAgain microchips for their safety. We also have our own universal scanner that reads HomeAgain chips as well as Avid chips. We recommend that you microchip your pet to ensure that he or she is safe and will be found if lost or stolen! Ask your vet about this simple procedure that would be a great investment for your pet!

The FIVE steps to Animal Recovery
If you have any questions or concerns about microchipping your pet please do not hesitate to email us! We will be happy to try to answer all of your questions to the best of our ability!
If your pet wears a collar tag for identification it is best to put only your name and telephone number, and the phone number of your veterinarian or a friend on the tag. This will ensure that anyone who finds your pet will know how to contact you to return your pet but at the same time they will be discouraged from keeping your pet simply because they know his or her name and other personal information.
